POSITION SUMMARY
BHDG Architects is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Observer to join our team in Southern Illinois. The ideal candidate will be responsible for monitoring and documenting construction activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, local regulations, and safety standards.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in construction, construction management, and/or architecture looking to be part of important projects in the Southern Illinois area with possible travel to projects in Tennessee and Kentucky.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Observe daily construction activities on job sites
- Monitor contractor work for compliance with plans, specifications, and safety regulations
- Document project progress, including daily reports and photographic records
- Communicate effectively with project designers, subcontractors, and owners
- Review and report on materials testing, erosion control measures, and traffic control setup
- Verify measurements, quantities, and placement of materials with relation to contractor pay applications
- Attend progress meetings and provide regular updates to project managers
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience in construction observation or inspection
- Strong knowledge of construction practices, safety standards, and local codes
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
